Saying ‘video games are supposed to be entertainment’ or ‘they’re just for fun!’ does not in any way excuse the sexism, racism, or other bigotry they express.
Because YOU, the privileged gamer, might be having fun. But the gamers who feel the sting of the nastiness these games throw our way, by stereotyping, sexualizing, badly characterizing, killing off, or even not including us?
We are not having fun.
Whenever someone says ‘it’s just for fun’ in this sort of context what I’m hearing is ‘my entertainment is more important than the actual life, safety and happiness oh real people who are constantly shit upon already’
