my problem with bronies is that they’ve taken one of the few not incredibly shallow shows for little girls, which, yes, was also supposed to be entertaining to the parents, and made it ENTIRELY about them. they can’t let an opportunity pass to let everyone know they’re male, and that they enjoy this show, like it’s some sort of badge of honour, and the word ‘brony’ itself LITERALLY SEPARATES THE MALE FANS FROM THE FEMALE ONES (the cool and unique ones from the ‘regular’ ones)
bronies often, and i say this not to make sweeping generalisations, think they’re the most important (sometimes even the only) viewers of the show and i’ve heard and seen people say ‘it’s not for girls!! it’s cool!’ ((so it being for girls is not cool ok thank you for your magnificent view on femininity))
they COMPLAIN about how the show doesn’t cater to them enough; they say there should be more male characters, never mind that it’s got a male main character and male background characters and even have the audacity to complain that the TOY LINE isn’t show-accurate
they want SO DESPERATELY to be acknowledged for liking something ‘girly’. they exhibit blatant misogyny when talking about the characters of the show ((calling the fashionista character a ‘bitch’ and ‘useless’ and wow many other issues and i only just went to page one of a message board))
people write articles about how special these men are, how extraordinary, for liking a little girls’ show, here you go, here’s your badge, instead of how the show is actually really revolutionary as its characters, while all feminine, do not have the traditional gender specific traits other characters on shows catering for young children have
they’ve literally taken the show
and made it about them
