Why You Should Delete SnapChat
Unsurprising fact of the day: the inventors of SnapChat are misogynists.
so… not only do they keep your photos on file indefinitely, they also can sell them at any time for any reason they see fit – which means that your friends or family members or even future employers could see you marketing any number of things, against your will. you could be used to market pornographic sites. your image could be fucking ruined, through no fault of your own.
please please PLEASE pass this on to everyone you know, especially if you know that they use snapchat or someone they know does. this information is IMPORTANT. lives could be ruined, here.
I replied to this yesterday posting again as it seems it’s still going around.

A quick google search of the author turns up he’s an anti-sex evangelical church pastor. Also the article is almost entirely fear mongering and deliberate misrepresentation of facts. He basically states that you should be afraid of snapchat because they’re saving your pics and could sell them. They’re not and they can’t. If they ever tried if they would be destroyed in court.
As far as controlling who sees what, no method is flawless. For people in long distance or online relationships, snapchat seems far superior to most other options.
Are it’s creators douche bags? Seems like it. It’s (primarily) a sexting app, are we surprised? Also if we’re going to be picky Disney was a NAZI and most people still love Mickey Mouse.
Consenting adults do whatever the fuck you want and don’t let anyone make you feel shitty for it.
At the end it links to a book he’s selling. So it’s not just lies and fear mongering but it’s lies and fear mongering FOR PROFIT! (by a priest!)
Reblogging for commentary, though I will add that the creators being misogynist is absolutely an acceptable reason to delete the app, and probably the only point in the original article I agree with.
From the Terms and Service document this fear-mongerer is so concerned about:
“by submitting User Content to Snapchat, you hereby grant us a nonexclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, sublicensable and transferable license to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, create derivative works from, distribute, perform and display such User Content in connection with the Services, subject to your use of privacy settings in the Services to control who can see your User Content.”
Cut through the crap: what that says is, “unless you say otherwise, we can’t use your stuff.” If you set your snapchat privacy settings to just friends, or any custom option, then your snaps can’t be saved or used.
From their privacy policy, the information they collect:
– Usage info
– Log info
– Device info
– Location info
– Cookie-collected info
Cutting through the crap again: they can collect and use info AROUND your app usage. They can sell Twitter aggregate info that 17-24 year olds tend to be on their phones at 2am on Friday nights. They can tell the police the address of the Starbucks you snapchatted from last if they have a warrant.
Also worth noting – that girl he talks about whose life was ruined by online photos? Her photos were never on Snapchat. The whole event took place before Snapchat even existed. She permanently posted photos to a private website and gave her boyfriend the password. He leaked it. It’s an awful thing to happen to a person – but if she’d been able to use Snapchat, IT PROBABLY NEVER WOULD HAVE HAPPENED TO HER.
That article is entirely fear-mongering; there’s nothing in Snapchat’s data or policies that gives any reason to believe it’s not safe.
They’ve had security issues, yes. A fuckton of phone numbers and app names got leaked. That’s a reason to leave. (Though they’re making some impressive company changes.)
But that guy? Just some fundie douchebag trying to scare you into stopping sexting. But again – there’s NO reason to believe that Snapchat is saving snaps. Photos are deleted immediately unless you ask for them to be saved and photos can’t be published or shared unless you specifically give them permission to do so.
Your snaps are safe, friends.
oop, pls read this extra info, guys!
