like … yes this character has issues with accepting responsibility and handling conflict

that’s because they’re twelve

Can I add to this by saying how obnoxious it is when people say a canonically depressed character is annoying because they don’t smile, or they’re not doing anything for themselves?
Like hell, they could openly say it, and show all the symptoms of severe depression, and all the viewer can talk about is “he needs to stop feeling bad for himself, grow a backbone. You have the best job in the world, be happy”.
