general tumblr notes since i see a lot of confusion/unawareness about this stuff

okay so first thing’s first: tumblr’s search is not the same as tumblr’s tags

i.e: tumblr.com/tagged/x and tumblr.com/search/x are different things

SEARCH

• tumblr’s search is shit; if you make a post with a word/phrase in it it will be searchable through tumblr.com/search/x
• even if the post is under a read more it will show up in a search
• there is no way to opt out of this
• the only way to prevent this is to put something in the word/phrase itself to throw off the search 
• i.e: making a post about that new anime you watched, if you use “character’s name” and “anime title” it’ll be searchable, if you use ”char.acter’s na.me” and “anim.e ti.tle” it will not be searchable

TAGS

• tags are what go at the bottom of posts in the #tags place
• only the FIRST FIVE tags will go into tumblr.com/tagged/x the rest of the tags will ONLY show up on your blog under tagged/x
• to prevent any of the first five tags from going into tumblr.com/tagged/x you can just put a “/” after the word/phrase
• NOTE: this will ALSO prevent it from showing up on your blog under tagged/x
• so if you want “character name” to be findable on your blog but you don’t want that post in the main tags then tagging the post like “#1/ #2/ #3/ #4/ #5/ #character name” will do just that
• extra note: if you have a blacklist extension the asterisk (*) is a wild card; if you want to blacklist “blood” put in “blood*” and it will block all variations of anything tagged with blood,such as “blood cw”,”blood tw”, etcetc

ASKS

• your ask will be eaten if you use more than 3 consecutive symbols
• “….” “####” “%%%%%” “$$$$$” etc etc
• THE ONLY EXCEPTION EXCLAMATION POINTS (“!!!!!”)
• YES ANY OTHER SYMBOLS WILL BE EATEN TOO this isn’t just limited to dots
• does not seem to apply to fanmail
