i hhaaaateee when ppl are like “ugh there’s so many tumblr kids calling themselves autistic, they’re not even properly diagnosed by a doctor :/” it’s like…….do you not realize that basically all of the autistic diagnosis can be 

1. expensive because it requires actual and multiple doctors visits, which many people cannot afford without insurance 

2. 9/10 times a doctor will not carry out the diagnosis or the process if they feel like you can “still do good in school”, some autism diagnosis requires actual brain scans and unless the doctor feels like you won’t “function well in school” they will not test you for it out of convenience for them 

3. autism is a huge spectrum and many doctors only care about diagnosing you if it’s “”obvious”” you’re autistic

like i was going to be diagnosed with autism when i was 5 years old but the doctor literally did not carry out the diagnosis, which the next process required scans of my brain cus in the early 2000′s at least, that’s what was required for some diagnosis’s, because he felt like i would do fine in school and it wasn’t an issue for school. like i literally have problems with focusing, distributing time, and i could have used a diagnosis in high school to help me get extra time during tests.

like people who want all autistic people to have proper documentation and diagnosis literallly….do not realize how hard it is to GET that diagnosis. that many doctors won’t do it or will just say “oh, you MIGHT have it” and leave it at that, no proper diagnosis. a lot of diagnosis’s are really only catered towards children and once an autistic person reaches adolescence the topic become “well why didn’t you do it when you were a kid???”

it’s REALLY fucking hard to get a diagnosis from a medical professional on autism, so maybe instead of going after people who can’t afford it/don’t want to deal with doctors not taking them seriously you should be more pissed off at the medical field kay thanks
