also i think it’s a bad social model for people to have to disclose their mental health status in order to be ‘allowed’ to have an opinion on mental health stuff
the culture of this website has normalized outlining your mental health profile (and often also survivor status) in detail on your about, but it also hasn’t normalized simply choosing not to disclose that information, which is scary to me
instead of expecting people to disclose sensitive personal information which they may not want to disclose, I think it’s better to maintain the awareness that we don’t know the full life story of the person we are talking to and understand that just because they don’t mention it in their about, it doesn’t mean it’s not there.
a lot of folks have been saying in the tags that this goes for sexuality and gender too and you’re absolutely right!! People are under no obligation to disclose those personal details.
