[DECEMBER 4, 2014] Police were investigating the death of a 21-year-old transgender woman who was gunned down while pounding on the front door of a Compton home seeking help.

Deshawnda Sanchez was shot around 4 a.m. Wednesday on the porch of a home near Wilton Place and 62nd Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

“She was definitely at that door pounding on that door seeking help,” LAPD Detective Christopher Barling said.

The occupant of the home came outside after hearing multiple gunshots but it was too late.

A neighbor’s surveillance camera captured part of the incident. Police were not releasing the video which apparently showed someone pulling up to the house in a vehicle, getting out and running up to the porch. The figure could then be seen running back to the vehicle and driving away, police said.

“The footage, it was heartbreaking,” said Diana Williams, the victim’s sister

Detectives believe Sanchez was running away from a robber when she was shot, but said they were not ruling anything out.

“Deshawnda is a transgender female. At this point we cannot say it’s a hate crime but we have not ruled out that as being a possibility,” Barling said. [source]

This is so tragic. My heart goes out to her and those she loved. I hope Deshawnda gets the justice she deserves. ‪#‎TransLivesMatter‬ ‪#‎BlackLivesMatter‬

We need to protect black childhood, at all costs. Fuck cops who see unarmed black children as aggressors, fuck every human being who ever sexualized a black child, fuck every teacher who ever dismissed a black child’s intelligence.

There seems to be some misinformation on tumblr, mixing up two different cases of police violence this week and saying an off-duty cop was killed while grabbing an inhaler. To clarify:

Omar Edwards was a black off-duty cop who was assisting in a chase of a car thief and was fatally shot by a white cop on the same chase

Brian Dennison was trying to help his daughter in the middle of an asthma attack when he was shot at by police. He was unharmed.

Please boost this so people understand that these are two separate stories.

faineemae are you gonna take some responsibility for this colossal mixup and the gross spread of blatant misinformation or nah

Judge Drops Involuntary Manslaughter Charge Against Cop In Aiyana Stanley-Jones Shooting

A few years ago, when I was waiting in line at Chipotle, there was a white male cop walking through the restaurant with his food to go. When he passed by a table with three young black children (they were around 5-7 years, they looked very young) that were laughing and enjoying dinner with their family, he stopped, stuck his finger in their faces, and said, “I’ll definitely see you guys later in life”.

He then left, smiling and holding himself up like he had just won something. The children were no longer laughing, and their mother looked like she wanted to cry. It was so disgusting, what he did. These people were just trying to have a nice dinner with their children. The children were just laughing and playing together. They weren’t doing anything different from any other family sitting down eating in that Chipotle.

For a cop come up to A FIVE, SIX, SEVEN YEAR OLD CHILD and basically tell them in so many words that he’ll be taking them to jail someday is just so fucking wrong on so many levels, and it was all because they were black.

Cops don’t go around pointing their fingers in five year old white children’s faces, criminalizing them because of their appearance. The racial bias that cops have against black children is very, disturbingly real.
