Okay, dumb Evangelion thing aside, really, it’s not dead. Probably.
So I woke up today to a post about some guy who’d made a post about Hiveswap being dead but deleted it, and explaining the contents of said post. Saying about information of Hussie’s Twitter, about Linkedin accounts, and social media deletions of members of the What Pumpkin team.
By this point we all know about the whole The Odd Gentlemen fiasco, whether it was true or not, it’s obvious there was /something/ there, and there’s been delays and lack of information lately that hint towards the fact Hiveswap might not be coming soon, but that was about it until today. I was a bit crushed reading the post- And decided to check more about the information.
If any of you have checked the Hiveswap tag today, you’ll already have seen lots of people talk about the issue calling someone out and saying something about the information not being true, but only the post WITH said information is on the Upd8 tag. For those who don’t check Hiveswap regularly, here’s what I could gather:
Tumblr User becomeimp posted something about the state of Hiveswap. They don’t, however, have anything to do with any official WhatPumpkin source, and obtained all their information by creepily stalking WhatPumpkin members and Hussie on social media. An ask in specific asking Becomeimp about IPGD made IPGD actually call them out, having seen them before. According to Becomeimp, they “sometimes messed with IPGD” and claimed IPGD might be dating Toby, and IPGD answered back, saying how they’re not “messing”, no one things so, and everyone who knows about them wants them away. She calls them creepy, stalkers and such, and pretty much politely tells them to fuck off and stop spreading misinformation about WP employees, Hussie and Hiveswap, and of course, to stop tracking people down.
While during the The Odd Gentlemen thing, the post was deleted because it was information that was pretty confidential, this time it was taken down due to a backlash. Because who knew being a creepy stalker online would have repercussions! Again, this guy isn’t related to WP at all, and is found creepy and stalker-ish. All of their information was ‘deductions’ and ‘assumptions’ from looking through people’s personal lives, calling them out and twisting the truth. Of COURSE Hussie would make a Private Twitter and delete it, of course WP employees would close down blogs- With people like them stalking them, they might even fear for their safety! Hussie has always been kinda secretive about his work, and he did say there’d be things about Homestuck Next Year, it’s still December here.
Hussie’s a man that wants to do a good game. He raised the money through Kickstarter, and was disappointed about his choice of developer. So he took it upon himself, bringing the development to a group of people he specifically picked for it. Hussie’s someone who loves his work, and because he loves his work, he pretty much built a fucking Game Developing Studio from the ground up so that the whole thing wouldn’t be a fiasco, even if that meant pausing Homestuck, because Hiveswap had a lot of money put behind it, and it’s already been three years.
So who knows. Maybe it’s true, maybe WP is disbanding and Hussie fucked up with Hiveswap. Maybe something went down and they can’t complete the game. But if that happens, I will wait to hear it from What Pumpkin or Hussie himself. Stalking people for information about the game is not fine, we’ve waited for three years, we can wait longer for more news, and not have to resort on someone who basically is telling us their theories built from methods like that.
I wasn’t going to make a post about this and let it die slowly, but seeing that post’s been getting notes and some people were saying how it’s the End of an Era or how they’re saddened that was the case, I decided to step up. Lately there’s been a lot of negativity with people apparently forgetting that when a hiatus happens the Fandom usually checks other stuff, and then returns at the next Update, or saying how they wish Homestuck to end because something’s gotten lazy or someone did something and yadda yadda.
The last thing we need right now as people starting to get disappointed or sad due to rumors that might just be false.
